UFOs seen over NYC on Oct 13 were balloons

As I had reported on Wednesday, a supposedly retired NORAD officer had predicted in his book that on Oct 13, 2010 alien spacecraft were to make themselves known by hovering over major cities throughout the planet. Unfortunately there was no such occurrence in Fresno, or for most of the planet at that. But there was something strange seen over New York City that day.

As this video shows, multiple objects were seen over the Big Apple in the mid afternoon. Were they the alien spacecraft that were promised? Unfortunately no, turns out that they were balloons that were “accidently” released by students for their teacher who had an engagement party.

According to the New York Daily News one of the student’s parents brought about forty iridescent pearl balloons to the school for language arts teacher Andrea Craparo, when a gust of wind sent several of the balloons floating away.

Experts with the National Weather Service confirmed that a wind was blowing between 5 to 10 mph at the time, which does lead credence to the balloon theory.

Both police and the FAA were receiving phone calls from concerned citizens wondering what the objects were. Police officials said they believed the objects were most likely balloons.

Then there is Stanley Fullhan, author of the book that started all of this. I have contacted his spokesperson, a Mr. Randy Kitchur, in hopes of getting a response. If I do I’ll post it here to share with everyone.

Aliens will make contact today, Oct. 13 2010

According to retired NORAD officer Stanley A. Fulham, a fleet of extraterrestrial vehicles will make themselves known to the entire planet Earth today, Oct. 13, 2010 when they will hover over major Earth cities.

The aliens reasons for making their appearance are that they wish to communicate with the people of Earth. According to Fulham, they are trying to intervene with humans destroying the planet.

He goes into more detail saying that the event will begin a process that will lead to mankind’s acceptance of the concept of aliens. The aliens will then grant “technologies” that will remove poisonous gases from the Earth’s atmosphere by no later than 2015.

All of this information can be found in Fulham’s book “Challenges of Change” where the author goes into detail how the initial interaction between the aliens and Earth will occur. He goes on to say he knows this as he has been in contact with 43,000 “old souls” that he calls the “Trancendors”.

Fulham claims he has been on contact with a “distinguished foreign ambassador” who has read he book and with great interest has sent it back to his home government where it was translated and is being studied by top officials.

For more information on Mr. Fulham and to order his book, you can visit his website.

We here at Weird Fresno have to wonder if Fresno has been picked as one of major Earth cities. Who’s up for having a “Welcome to Earth” party on top of the Security Bank building?

Piranha fished out of the San Joaquin River back in 1987

The stretch of the San Joaquin River in Fresno County where a
piranha was caught in 1987.

On July 4, 1987, a lone piranha was caught in the San Joaquin River in the western part of Fresno County. It was fished out of the San Joaquin River north of the city of Kerman along a stretch of river near the intersection of Madera Avenue (Hwy. 145) and Modoc Avenue (this is according to the LA Times, but is incorrect as both Modoc Ave and Hwy. 145 run north/south and therefore are parallel).

The fish was about 15 inches in length and weighed roughly two pounds. A biologist with the Department of Fish and Game confirmed that the fish had been in the river for some time as its growth pattern and scales confirmed it came from the San Joaquin.

More representatives from Fish and Game were dispatched to determine if there were any more of the fish, which is illegal to own in California, as there was a rumor that another fisherman had caught another piranha downstream, but nothing was ever found.

The question remains, even twenty three years later. Where did the piranha come from? Most likely a person somehow obtained the piranha, probably for a fish tank, and when the fish started eating the other fish the owner decided that it would be smart to dump it in the San Joaquin instead of disposing of the fish. Who knows how long the fish was in the river before the fisherman caught it.

Win passes to the Fright Night Scream Park in Clovis

As I had mentioned on Monday, I was able to grab a couple of free passes for one attraction at the Fright Night Scream Park in Clovis (you can choose which attraction you want to go to) and these are good for the entire time the park is open this year.

Last year I had asked people to leave comments telling me what their favorite horror movie was. This year I thought I would do something different and since this site is moving more towards urban legends and such and not just the paranormal, I would love for people to tell me their favorite urban legend. Does not have to be local, but if it is that would be great.

The first six people that post their favorite urban legends and a way to for me to contact them will win the passes. Please don’t put your entire e-mail address, just put your user name then at then the provider then dot com. If I was posting it would read as “weirdfresno at gmail dot com. I don’t want anyone getting spammed if they post their actual e-mail address.

And remember if you don’t win the tickets, the Fresno Beehive is having their screamup on October 21 and ticket prices will $5 per attraction (remember you have to follow them on Twitter to RSVP). I will definitely be going to that, though not to sure if the ghouls there will be happy to see me so if you see my corpse in one of the attractions, that’s probably why.

Spooky lectures for the month of October

It’s October, and for this blogger that can mean only one thing. Halloween is near. When I used to be a paranormal investigator this was always a busy month. Not for investigating, but doing promotional work. It seems this year it’s no different for several groups in the area.

I saw a calendar for the Fresno County Public Library events for October and it seems there are several lectures on the subject of the paranormal for this month (most focusing on ghost hunting). I’d thought I’d post them here in case anyone was interested in attending one of these lectures.

The first event is a lecture on basic ghost hunting. Here you can talk to paranormal investigators from Central California Paranormal Investigators, hear some of their stories, and see both photographic evidence and listen to EVP recordings. There will also be a question and answer period for anyone who might have any questions. For those interested in going, here are the locations and dates:

Woodward Park Library – October 6 at 7 PM

Kingsburg Library – October 21 at 6:30 PM

Clovis Regional Library – October 26 at 7 PM

Fowler Library – October 28 at 6:30 PM

There will also be a screening of the documentary Haunting of Central California. This documentary was previously mentioned here and it was shot up at the Jeffery Inn in Coulterville (which is in Mariposa County) by Central California Paranormal Investigators. Representatives from CCPI will be available to answer any questions.

Cedar Clinton Library – October 27 at 4:30 PM

Fig Garden Regional Library – November 8 at 7PM

Sunnyside Regional Library – November 21 at 2PM

I had previously mentioned the CCPI Lightworkers, and they will be doing a discussion on psychic gifts and how they can be used.

Sunnyside Regional Library – October 17 at 2 PM

Fig Garden Regional Library – November 7 at 2 PM

And it seems that CCPI will be leading an actual ghost hunt at the Central Library in downtown Fresno on November 5, starting at 7 PM. You have to be at least 14 and have to pre-register at 488-3856. I’m not sure what the story is behind the haunts here but I plan on registering to see what is there.

And finally CCPI is doing ghost walks in both the Tower District and Old Town Clovis. For more information you can check out Nightfall tours.

The return to the Fright Night Scream Park

Remember how I had mentioned all the strange phone calls I had been receiving for the past week or so on the Weird Fresno hotline? A woman kept calling me and leaving cryptic messages about how she needed my help, but wouldn’t say what she needed exactly. Curiosity got the best of me and I finally called her back. Little did I know what a huge mistake I was making.

The woman had said she needed help with a haunting and that she wanted to meet me in Clovis. She gave me an address that was at the intersection of Shaw and Clovis Avenues. It should have rung a bell with me, but I blame the lack of sleep (created by 2:00 am phone calls from said woman) for me not picking up on things sooner. When I got there I realized the error in judgement I had made. I was at the Fright Night Scream Park.

A place I had promised myself that I would never visit again.

I was already there, so I grabbed my camera that I always keep in my car and walked towards the entrance. I was hoping this was still someone who needed my help, but at this point my gut feeling was that it was a trap. As I approached the front doors, they opened and out walked a pretty young, pale woman. She said she and the other “residents” were expecting me and was glad their little trick worked. At this point I knew I was screwed.

She beckoned for me to follow her in and she wanted to show me the upgrades they had made to the locale, stating that she was for sure certain that I would meet my demise there and join their ranks as one of the undead. Boy do I know how to piss someone off or what?

The first attraction we went to was Psychosis 3D. I figured if I could get through the creepy clowns right away then I’d be able to handle anything. You think I would have learned by now, but no. The clowns were way worse than last year, and of course they remembered me (Rule #31: never piss off a clown). I was able to shoot a bit of video; I apologize for the shaky footage as I was running for my life.

After that little sunshine filled trip to the crazy farm, my guide grabbed me and dragged me to the Necropolis. She told me it had been “revamped” and laughed. To me this pretty much meant I was screwed. Even worse was that this was where my guide “lived” and said she wanted me to join her there. I’ll be honest and was tempted as like I said she was pretty cute, but I avoided temptation and declined her offer. Which was probably a good thing.

After that little excursion through hell we went to what was now called Quarantine. Last year it had been called Desecration, but apparently some sort of virus outbreak had occurred and now they were all zombie cannibals. Oh good, I thought, cause regular cannibals aren’t bad enough. What I find humorous about this was the glee my guide had for trying to have me meet my demise. You’d think I’d somehow wronged her. But no, she just didn’t like me. This bit of video I shot proves that.

We finally got out of there and the Asylum was last on her list of places to kill me. And unlike my guide from last year, she went in there with me (I liked her, she had gumption). Yeah this was even more bat shit crazy than last year. I don’t want to give anything away, but whoever decorated that place has some serious issues. A little Prozac might help, just a suggestion is all. I was able to get some footage of the attraction, but the “guests” there weren’t too happy about this.

As I left the Asylum I head something that terrified me . Somehow the Fresno Beehive has teamed up with the Fright Night Scream Park to do a tweet up (or screamup as they called it). The event is on October 21, at 7:00 pm and ticket prices are half off what they normally are. But you have to RSVP to @FresnoBeehive to be on the list and follow @FrightNightSP (even the undead are on Twitter it seems). For more info I’m linking the page to the Beehive’s blog. Apparently there’s a pre-tweetup going on at Rio Grill in Sierra Vista Mall starting at 5:30. Most likely I will go as I want to see what the hell is going on. Well that and I want to see if the offer to join my now former guide there as a resident is still good or not. Hey, I can’t help it. As I said, she was cute and spoke with an accent.

And somehow I was able to make it through all four attractions yet again. I’d like to say it was because of my guile, wit, and charm. But we all know it was due to sheer luck. As I was walking out of the attraction (ok running like a scared little girl) I saw a familiar looking gentleman.

As an old school Michael Jackson fan I was glad to see him working again. Mr. Jackson was generous enough to give me several free one attraction passes to the Fright Night Scream Park (I don’t think this are good for the screamup as that’s a different event). I’ll be posting something mid week regarding giving away the passes. So stay tuned.

Ghost of prostitute said to haunt Fresno railroad crossing

Is this railroad crossing on Peach Ave haunted by the
ghost of a murdered prostitute?

There are rumors that a railroad crossing on Peach Ave, south of Butler is haunted by the ghost of a murdered prostitute. Supposedly several years ago a dismembered body was discovered in a garbage bag that was discarded on the south west side of the tracks in some bushes. A few months later people began to see a woman standing next to the crossing watching the cars drive by.

There have been reports of the crossing guard arms coming down, yet there was no train on the tracks (though to be honest I’ve seen this at many crossings, this doesn’t mean they are all haunted) and an eerie sensation has been felt as well.

Could the spirit of the slain woman be haunting the crossing? Perhaps she is standing there, watching the cars going by in hopes of seeing the person(s) that murdered her. Or perhaps it’s nothing more than just an urban legend that has grown over the years thanks to the internet. If a police report can be found that verifies this or more witnesses to the ghost come forward it’s going to be hard to tell where this story really stands.

Return to Snake Road

Last Saturday night I was bored and itching to do a bit of ghost hunting so I decided I'd take a drive to Channel, or Snake Road, in Sanger (which is in the eastern part of Fresno County) as it had been a couple of years since I had been there and I wanted to shoot some video for the website. Now normally I wouldn't advise anyone to go alone, so I let a few people know where I was at in case something happened.

For those who don't know the legend, basically it says that a woman and her two children were driving down the very windy road (this is where it gets the nickname Snake Road) and she took a turn too fast and drove off into the river. She was unable to get out of the car and drowned there. Her two children were able to get out, but they drowned downstream. Supposedly the mother wanders up and down the road at night looking for her two children. I did a more lengthy post here, explaining how I felt it was more urban legend than anything else. Still I wanted to check it out.

I left the apartment with both cameras fully charged. But when I got there, my video camera was nearly drained and had maybe four minutes left on it. I have no idea what caused this, but I have been on investigations before where electronic's would suffer battery drain similar to this when there was paranormal activity around.

Still I was able to shoot this bit of video. I apologize for the first part as it's pitch black, even with the night vision turned on. I decided to leave it in as you can hear the confusion in my voice regarding the battery drain. The latter part is me driving down the road as I wanted to show how windy it actually was.

I don't know what caused the battery drain. I did check my camera the next day after recharging it and there were no problems (even used it that night with no problems). Maybe the charge didn't take for some reason. Or maybe there was something out there that didn't want me filming. I think a second trip may be warranted in the near future.
