Originally known as the Shafter Hotel, the building was constructed in 1913 and served as a popular stopover point for travelers along the Southern Pacific Railroad. The hotel was later purchased by the Green family in 1945, who renamed it the Green Hotel and operated it as a family-owned business for over half a century.

During its heyday, the Green Hotel was a hub of activity in the small town of Shafter. The hotel's bar and restaurant were popular gathering spots for locals and visitors alike, and the hotel's 32 rooms were almost always occupied. In the 1950s, the hotel even played host to famous guests such as Clark Gable and Carol Lombard, who were traveling through the area.

Today, the Green Hotel still stands as a testament to Shafter's rich history. Although the hotel is no longer operational, the building has been beautifully restored and now serves as a popular venue for weddings, events, and photo shoots. The hotel's unique architecture and vintage charm continue to draw visitors from all over California and beyond, and the Green Hotel remains an important landmark in the town of Shafter.

Along with its rich history, the Green Hotel in Shafter, California is also rumored to be haunted. There have been several reports of strange occurrences and apparitions within the hotel's walls. Some guests have reported feeling a cold presence or hearing unexplained noises, while others have claimed to have seen the ghostly figure of a woman dressed in white roaming the halls.

Legend has it that the woman in white is the ghost of a former guest who died under mysterious circumstances at the hotel. Others believe that the hotel's bar is haunted by the ghost of a man who was killed in a fight many years ago. Despite these eerie tales, however, the Green Hotel remains a popular destination for those seeking a glimpse into the history of Shafter, and many visitors still flock to the hotel in hopes of experiencing a supernatural encounter.

Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-21108603876928250132022-10-24T20:56:00.003-07:002022-10-24T20:56:38.973-07:00The Legend of the Tyler Street House

I remember when I first started getting serious about ghost hunting and this happened to coincide with me getting access to the internet for the first time. Here I had the world (as it was) at m fingertips and I started to search for haunted places in the area. And thanks to one of the very first paranormal themed websites called the Shadowlands.net I found several in the area, including one titled the Tyler Street House.

According to the site the Tyler Street House was a modest home that has been the scene of terrifying poltergeist activity since the mid 80's and continues to this day. The site goes on to say the house has had over 22 different occupants since the phenomenon started. Some have been said to report seeing red eyes peer out through closets and darkened bedrooms. Objects were seen to fly off countertops. It even got a bit gruesome when a bludgeoned body of a cat has been find several times in an upstairs closet despite the owners at the time not having any pets.

What I find interesting is that twenty two years later this same story is still repeated verbatim. It's almost as people have copy and pasted over the years. Now I am partly to blame as I originally wrote about it back in 2010 here but even then I mentioned my misgivings about the stories there. I had had the chance to investigate the location back in 2001 and 2007 and nothing happened. Granted it is hard to say whether the place is active or not based off just two investigations, but researching the history helped to lend to me believing the place is not. For one there is no second floor so I am not sure how there could be a second floor closet where the corpse of an animal can be found. Anyone seeing a photo of the house would realize it's only one story and this part of the legend should disappear. But it hasn't. Why?

Remember when we were kids and there was the story of an abandoned house being haunted? No one knew why but they KNEW it was haunted because their friend had told them and why would they lie? Well it's kind of the same here. The story gets repeated over and over and no one questions it because why would they? They want a haunted house story and here it is.

I still wonder about the rest of the story. Where did the red eyes and and flying objects come from? The flying objects definitely sound like poltergeist activity but the red eyes I do not know. I really wish I knew where this story came from, but like with most legends its hard to pinpoint the genesis of it.

Will this legend die? Well no, especially with me writing about it again. It's fascinated me over the years as to why it endured even though the story hasn't changed. Will it change now? Probably not. It's one of the many urban legends that permeates Fresno and those never really go away.
Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-46567525640040585712022-02-28T21:23:00.003-08:002022-02-28T21:23:29.229-08:00The Lone Pine Mountain Devil
Anyone who knows me knows I love local cryptid stories (the Fresno Nightcrawlers being the best example) and love how each state seems to have it's own folklore surrounding a cryptid of some sorts. Some can argue that Bigfoot is California's "official" cryptid and I'm not here to disagree with that completely, but want to introduce a lesser known cryptid native to California, and one not too far from Central California.

I'd like to present to you the Lone Pine Mountain Devil.

The Lone Pine Mountain Devil is said to be a winged creature that is a distant cousin of the Jersey Devil. Early accounts from priests who were traveling in the area describe small "winged demons sent from the depths of hell"

Lone Pine itself is a small town about 100 miles due east of Fresno with the population of roughly 2000 or so people. But here's the kicker, it's a four hour drive. Why you ask? Because the quickest way to drive there is to head south to Bakersfield then head east to Tehachapi and then back up to Lone Pine itself. Scenic route indeed.

For whatever reason the creature seems to inhabit this area and witnesses have described it as a large furry creature with several wings. It has razor like talons and numerous venomous fangs. The cryptid is said to attack it's prey by first hitting the chest and then the head of it's target. Most predators eat the meat of its prey whereas the Mountain Devils are said to prefer only the soft cartilage of the face and sometimes torso and completely ignore the rest of the carcass and leave it to scavengers.

Could this be an actual creature or nothing more than another folk tale? It's description lacks classification as my first thought was perhaps some sort of reptile but the fur and multiple wings rule that out. Could it be the descendant of some sort of undiscovered dinosaur? Or is there a small pack of some unknown creature roaming the southern Sierra Nevadas preying on those that wander to close it where it lives?

All I know is I think a road trip is in order. I'm curious what the town's folk have to say about this local legend.
Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-45564750348925140742021-10-24T13:22:00.006-07:002021-10-25T18:33:40.724-07:00Is Disney California Adventures haunted by the ghost of a little girl?

The entrance to Disney California Adventures. - Photo taken by me Oct. 2012

Most of you that know me personally know of how great my love/obsession with Disneyland is. So imagine my surprise when I was told of a new story, this time across from the original park at Disney's California Adventures.

@thedavidvaughn
Reply to @el_gorio #greenscreen how are we all seeing the same Disneyland ghost girl FOR REAL???
♬ original sound - David - Disneyland Tips

My friend Michele shared with me the above Tik Tok video of someone claiming that multiple people have unknowingly seen the ghost of a little girl at California Adventure. He had stated in an earlier video that he was at the lockers as you first enter the park and saw a little girl out of the corner of his eyes. Turning to look she suddenly wasn't there. He was accompanied by his sister and she had the same experience. Current and former cast members started to comment they had seen her too, one former member who used to work one of the candy stores in DCA even told a story on how he was working late one night and on his walkie talkie he could hear security calling out a little girl being seen in different parts in the park and could even be seen on camera.

@thedavidvaughn
##duet with @cheify9 The Disneyland ghost girl spotted by security in California Adventure ##disneyland ##ghosts
♬ original sound - Anthony Reyes32313

So multiple have claimed to see this little girl in different parks at different times and even when the park is closed, but is this really a ghost and if so where is there any data to back this up? Doing a bit of digging on the Disneyland forums I found a post from someone that a little girl was killed in the old Disneyland parking lot some time in 1985. If true this would make sense as Disney's California Adventure was built over the old parking lot. Doing a quick Google search I was able to find out that this story was indeed true and that sadly around September 15 1985 a seven year old girl was crushed by a tour bus from Santa Barbara. Apparently she was trying to cross the lot with a relative and somehow fell into the side of the bus. Sadly the poor thing was ran over by the rear wheels of the bus and was killed. The link to the original article can be found here.

So now we have a confirmed death and numerous sightings of a little girl wandering the park by multiple witnesses. This has me wondering, does she not know she is dead and in a state of confusion is looking for the relative that was with her when she died? Or does she know that she is and instead wanders the park, eternally enjoying the place as a little kid? One thing is for sure is that numerous people have seen her and Disneyland may not just be the happiest place on earth but one of the most haunted.

Also you can find me here on Tik Tok. I'm trying to add old videos and will be posting some new ones as well.
Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-63773376200720812272021-09-15T19:05:00.010-07:002021-09-15T20:18:00.192-07:00Is Fresno County's town of Friant a paranormal hotspot?

Millerton Lake which is near Friant, CA. Is this location a paranormal hot spot?
Photo courtesy of Rennett Stowe from Flickr.

I know it's been A WHILE since I have written anything. Given the past year and a half it's been hard to really go anywhere but hopefully that will be changing soon. Still I was itching to write something as it's been over two years and since then I had focused more on social media and let this site lay fallow, something I want to fix. So I decided to check out the National UFO Reporting Center for any local sightings but with a different focus, not on the newness of the sightings, but the location.

I found a few that occurred over in Friant by Millerton lake. Now you are probably asking yourself why I picked Friant, and here is why. I've been reading a lot the past year on different theories about UFOs, ghosts, cryptids, etc. and came across the idea of a place that is considered "thin". This is an old (think pre-Christian) Irish concept of where the veil between worlds is thin. Now you are probably asking yourself "Ok but why Friant and UFOs?" Well I am glad you asked that. There is a theory out there with some paranormal researchers that UFOs, cryptids, ghosts, etc. are all from the same place so to speak. Ever hear of Skinwalker Ranch? That place has everything and is considered to be a thin place. And I think Friant is also one of those. And here's why.

Remember the story I wrote about Lost Lake and the ghosts that haunt the place plus the weird creature that was supposedly seen in the water? Right near Friant. Remember the story of the phantom police officer on Friant Road? Yep, that's another. Oh remember that poor woman who was found amnesiac wandering near Millerton thinking she was a mermaid? Also Friant. And let's not forget the numerous sightings of large fish or some other strange creature swimming in the waters of Millerton Lake.

So we have all these weird things around this one location? But no UFO sightings right? Well that's where the before mentioned National UFO Reporting Center comes into play. I was able to find two sightings reported sightings around the Friant area. Now I know these are only two sightings within the last twenty years of so, but imagine all the UFOs that weren't reported either because people didn't know how or weren't aware of a way to report these sightings.

That said below are the two reported sightings. Both were of strange lights seen in the skies. I have included the text from the original reports as well as the link to them.

Reported: 8/1/2018 6:19:06 PM 18:19
Location: Friant, CA
Shape: Light

Summer of 2017, Friant, California… On the Madera side of Millerton, there is a dead end in which families can set up BBQ's and a dock for people with boats. It was approximately 9:40 when my boyfriend and i noticed people hanging out on the dock enjoying the stars.

We decided to walk down to the dock and do the same. When we got to the dock we sat down for a few moments to wait for the other people to leave so we could sit at the very end. Eventually they left and we sat on the end. Just looking into the sky discussing our relationship problems no more than two minutes into the conversation we notice a light flying smoothly threw the sky, not fast like a jet and not slow like a airplane.. It just glided vertically through the sky and before we knew it, it zoomed up into the sky horizontally and just disappeared. As it zoomed up to disappear it didnt just move at a crazy speed its almost if it just faded up into the sky. We could depict what it was, we were ! so shocked we couldn't bring our minds the the thought of us actually sighting a ufo. Crazy part is, you'd think we'd be so stoked and tell our family, but its as if the whole moment slipped our mind cause we never brought up… i'm a strong believer so how could something like this just slip my mind til this year of 2018? How did i not instantly react and pull out my phone? It's rare to have the trinity of paranormal in the same area (Bridgewater Triangle in Southeast Massachusetts is another). I know I have been saying this but I definitely need to explore this area some more, specifically Lost Lake. But I wouldn't be surprised if the town of Friant has some stories. And lets not forget that the original town of Millerton lies at the bottom of the lake ever since the dam was built. Now no one died due to the flooding but I wonder what lies at the bottom of the lake? That said the area is definitely a place I need to revisit soon and hopefully it won't take me another two years to write about it.

Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com6Friant, CA 93626, USA36.9877274 -119.71181188.6774935638211517 -154.86806180000002 65.29796123617885 -84.5555618tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-49376631202837933982019-02-18T11:58:00.002-08:002022-01-29T20:45:04.444-08:00Former keepers are said to haunt Monterey Lighthouse

Being President's Day weekend and needing to get out of Fresno for a bit, I decided to head to Monterrey for the day and go to a favorite place there called The Crown and Anchor.

Don't get me wrong the place is fantastic, but I can't justify driving two and a half hours there and back just for some food so I began to search for something to do besides the typical “go to the aquarium and Cannery Row” trip. While searching for haunted places I haven’t been to yet (because that’s how I am) I came across Point Pinos Lighthouse in nearby Pacific Grove. Perfect. A plan was formed

Leaving on a dreary and rainy Saturday (perfect lighthouse visiting weather if you ask me), and made it to Pacific Grove a little past 1:00 pm. The rain had stopped but it was still cloudy and the surf below was active with rather large waves, indicative of the next storm that was coming. I walked up to the light house marveling at the view it had.

The lighthouse itself was small but cozy. And I soon found out it was still in operation and was the oldest operating lighthouse on the Pacific Cost. Walking inside I was met by a pleasant docent and she began to tell the history of the place.

Built between 1853-1854 the Point Pinos Lighthouse was one of eight commissioned by Congress to be built on the West Coast. Charles Layton was the first keeper and arrived with his wife Charlotte, and family in 1854 and watched over the house until the lens for the lighthouse was installed and lit on February 1, 1855. Sadly his tenure as keeper would last less than a year. While part of a posse searching for local outlaw Anastasio Garcia, Charles was shot in the stomach and a few days later he succumbed to his wounds.

Without a lighthouse keeper, the people of Monterey suggested that Charlotte be made keeper as she was familiar with the upkeep of the lighthouse, plus she had her children who she needed to take care of. In the first part of 1856 she was appointed keeper of the lighthouse and became the first woman keeper on the west coast.

Charlotte wasn’t the only female keeper in the history of the lighthouse. In 1893 Emily Fish became its keeper. She was recently widowed and her son-in-law was able to get her the position at the lighthouse. For over twenty years she took care of the lighthouse and added to its grounds by bringing in soil so she could add landscaping such as trees, hedges and bushes, and grass to its sandy locale. It was said the 92 acre station had cows, horses, and chickens roaming it by the time she was done. Finally in 1914, and her health failing, Emily had to retire as keeper, ending one of the longest tenures there.

Over the years Point Pinos Lighthouse had thirteen keepers from 1855 until 1964 when the US Coast Guard took over. Today the city owns the property with the Coast Guard tasked with upkeep of the light itself. Everything is automated but it seems that some of the former keepers still like to tend to things there.

Charles Layton’s ghost has been said to have been seen wandering the area where the light is kept on the third floor, tending the light or polishing the windows of the copula as well as doors seemingly open and close on their own.

Emily Fish is also said to haunt the lighthouse and it seems she is seen more throughout the house. She has been spotted wandering the second floor of the house, specifically where her bedroom used to be as items wind up missing or are misplaced. Others have heard the swishing of skirts going by them as they catch a scent of the perfume Emily would wear.

As I mentioned I had discovered that the lighthouse was rumored to be haunted by both Charles and Emily. After exploring for a bit I found one of the docents and asked if there was any truth to this. Figuring I would get the reaction I get here at home of “There are no ghosts here, please stop asking.” I was a bit surprised at her reaction. She said she hadn’t seen anything or heard of anything but admitted that she didn’t believe in ghosts anyways and that if there was something there she wouldn’t see it. Still we talked for a good fifteen minutes about Emily and all the things she had done for the lighthouse when I heard a grumbling sound.

No it wasn’t a ghost, it was my stomach telling me it was time to go eat lunch. I thanked the docent for the talk and she said that one of the other docents would know more but was out to lunch and I should stop back by some time. After a quick stop to the gift shop where I picked up two new ghost books on Monterey and then headed to the Crown and Anchor for lunch. Which I recommend to anyone who visits Monterey, the food is fantastic and the atmosphere fun. And try the sticky toffee pudding. It’s life changing.
Is the Point Pinos Lighthouse haunted? It’s hard to say. I was there for maybe an hour and talked to one person who worked there. She was surprised by the stories but they had to have come from somewhere. The author who wrote the two local books I bought didn’t mention the lighthouse in either, but I still plan on contacting him. Perhaps when he wrote the books he wasn’t aware of the stories. I really wish I had a chance to talk to the docent that was out to lunch and see what she thought and knew. I guess that warrants a second trip back to Monterey. And not just for sticky toffee pudding.
Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-46060437024969515182018-09-15T10:58:00.000-07:002018-09-15T10:58:56.785-07:00Ten years later, revisiting the first story on Weird FresnoTen years ago today I started something new. At that time Facebook wasn't the juggernaut it is today and Twitter was just taking off. Myspace still reined the interwebs and it seemed everyone and their mother had a blog, and Fresno was no exception. Inspired by the numerous blogs that were popping up I decided to create one about one of my biggest passions. The paranormal.

I didn't really know how to write then (some say I still don't) nor did I know how to research and my main source of any legend was the internet. Still I had something no one else did and little did I know how big it would get. So in honor of ten years of crazy weird things I wanted to revisit my first story. The Watts Valley Wolf Ape.

Before I get into the main sighting, and were the creature got it's name, a brief history of the legend of the creature is in order.

There are legends of the creature coming over the Bearing Straight when the first Native Americans migrated to this land and even coexisted with them and cave drawings that were found depicted a strange creature with long grey hair with an ape like face and human-like hands and feet. It also seemed to be always sick looking, coughing and foaming at the mouth for some reason. Legend calls it the Devil Ape or Devil Fang but with the last recorded sighting it started being called the Watts Valley Wolf Ape, named after where it was seen.

The first known sighting in the twentieth century was by the legendary photographer Ansel Adams. He was visiting Yosemite and while camping a pack of the creatures came upon his tent. Alone and terrified he stayed until they finally went away.

Another, more terrifying story involves a lone creature entering a single room school house in the southern part of the valley (rumored to be near Hanford) and began harassing the students and teacher. To protect themselves the students piled up their desks and climbed to the safety of the rafters. The teacher was able to lock themselves safely in a nearby closet. Apparently the creature had smelled the children's lunches and tore through the desks to get them. When it finally had it's fill, it left.

One of my favorite stories tells the tale of a local preacher that shot one of the creatures some time in the 1950's claiming it to be a "pet of Satan". He hung it up on the church walls. For several weeks it hung until the smell became too much. The preacher was able to sell it to a traveling circus. Here's the creepy part. With the money he made he went up to San Francisco dreaming of starting his own church up there. Sadly his dreams were not meant to be and he was murdered soon after arriving. His body was so badly disfigured that it took months to identify him. People whispered he was cursed for killing the creature.

Not much more was seen of the creature. A long haired creature was seen at Bass Lake in the 1990's. This could have been a bigfoot sighting (which is no less incredible) but the creature was said to walk on all fours, which was one of it's main characteristics.

So I have to say that I heard this story on the radio (RIP KRZR 103.7) and was unable to find out who the witness was. I was able to write down most of the story and reconstruct it. I fixed the structure of the story so it reads better but it still is the same.

The most recent and detailed story was recanted on a local Fresno radio station. There were two witnesses, a man and his uncle, who were hunting for garnets near Watts Valley Cemetery when a strange looking creature came out of the bushes. The creature was described as six foot long, grey mangy hair and dog like with a face like a baboon and with eyes that were flat on its face like a human’s. It opened its mouth but only a moan escaped and then made a strange sound like a cough. Both witnesses began to run from the creature as it began to chase after them. For some reason the man threw his lunch at the creature but this only stopped it momentarily. It continued to chase them over the hills and the two witnesses jumped over fence after fence and ran through pastures trying to escape the creature. Cows fled as it chased the two men. Finally they found themselves in the Watts Valley Cemetery and hid behind several tombstones, hoping to lose the beast. Unfortunately it caught their scent and started to come towards them when, in a moment of genius, the uncle threw some cinnamon flavored chewing gum near the beast hoping the scent would distract it. It worked and the beast was momentarily occupied. Soon after that a caretaker for the small cemetery arrived and offered to give the two men a ride back to their car several miles away. All three watched the strange creature for a few more minutes in the safety of the caretaker’s truck before it went away.

The question remains, even after ten years, is what was this? Crazed dog, bigfoot, werewolf, or some freak genetic experiment run amok have all been theorized. I wish I knew. If the story is true then whatever they saw was terrifying. But I have to ask this: why haven't there been any more sightings since? If the history of the creature has even a kernel of truth to it you think there would have been more sighting since. I've never been to Watts Valley, though I do know the area. Part of me wants to take a trip up there one weekend and visit. I just have to make sure I bring some cinnamon gum to protect myself.

So that was my first story, pretty much how I originally told it. Just fixed up the grammar and structure a bit to let it read better. I can't believe I've been doing this for ten years now. I've wrote about everything from crazy things at Lost Lake, giant catfish at Millerton, UFO sightings all over Fresno, to ghosts haunting some of Fresno's most historic locations. Not sure what the next ten years will be but I can't wait to see what it will be. Thank you to everyone who has read one of my stories over the years. It truly means a lot.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The fossilized skeleton of a pterosaur. A living specimen was said to have been seen flying over the Fresno area. Image courtesy of Flickr.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">I’ve written about large winged creatures flying over the Fresno area in the past and most were described as large birds with near fifteen foot wingspans but while researching another something else I came across the story of Scott Norman, who in 2007, saw a creature flying in the Fresno area describing it as akin to looking like a flying dinosaur called a pterosaur.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Now Scott’s sighting wasn’t random. He had been informed of strange sightings in the area and during the summer of 2007 he came here to investigate for himself. He was a seasoned investigator by this point, traveling around the world investigating different cryptid claims.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">His sighting occurred about 2:00 am in the morning in a local rancher’s field. He saw a large winged creature over one of the rancher’s buildings and out into the nearby field. The description of the creature was it had a wingspan of almost ten feet, was completely featherless with wings like that of a bat, and had a crest shaped object on its head roughly two feet long. The creature glided silently overhead and the entire sighting lasted no longer than 20 seconds the most. Ever the seasoned investigator, Scott was skeptical and wasn’t completely sure what he saw was indeed a pterosaur.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">What interests me about this story is that this isn’t the first time a creature like this was seen in the area. Back in 1891 two creatures described as “dragons” were seen flying over the Selma area. The creatures were chased for two days but unfortunately were never captured. Could these same creatures have some relation to what Scott saw over a century later? Unfortunately this was the last time Scott was able to investigate these sightings as he passed away in February 2008. This is another reason why I wanted to share his story. He did a lot in his short time on this earth and I wanted to make sure others knew what he did.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">You can find the original article that talks about Scott’s sighting in Fresno here and a brief description of the 1891 sighting here.
The location isn’t exact but most accounts have seen the spirit somewhere in between Ave 15 and Ave 18 1/2.

The first recorded sighting happened in January of 2010 when a witness and her husband were driving home to Clovis from Madera on Avenue 15. They were driving down the country road when the witness suddenly saw a man walking down the middle of the road and had to quickly swerve to avoid hitting him. The man seemed oblivious to almost being hit despite the fact that the car was going almost 60 miles per hour. The witness described the figure as Caucasian, in his early twenties, wearing a dark sweatshirt with a hood and blue jeans. After they passed him they hit a thick patch of fog and the man was nowhere to be seen. The witness notes that her husband didn’t see the man at all despite looking in the same direction as she and he was surprised by her sudden swerving of the car. Ever since that night the witness has refused to drive down that stretch of road when going home.

An incident occurred late winter of 2013, this time on Avenue 18. This witness was driving home around 3:00 am and it was somewhat foggy. They were driving down the road when out of nowhere a man wearing blue jeans and a hoodie was seen in the middle of the road. The witness swerved to avoid him and noticed that he didn’t even try to get out of the way, which she thought was odd. When this occurred they didn’t think much of it as they never saw anyone on that road before that late at night. It was only upon hearing that other people had seen the same figure in the area that they thought this wasn’t a normal person.

Another account involves two witnesses who were driving down Avenue 18 1/2 around 1:30am. As they were passing a church a young male, Caucasian and wearing blue jeans and a hoodie suddenly appeared about five feet in front of them. He was standing on the dividing line of the road and the driver missed him by inches as they swerved to avoid him. Despite being so close to him they were unable to see his face. As they drove past him, she looked back and he was no longer there.

There are more accounts like this with the same description of the man, late teens to early twenties, Caucasian and wearing blue jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. Some witnesses have also said he was wearing white tennis shoes, but this varies. Another common theme is how the man is oblivious to the oncoming car and is described usually as looking down. Also most of the incidents happened late at night and it seems all the witnesses are females.

So here’s the question. Who is he? Conjecture (which I’m great at) has me wondering if some young man was walking down one of these roads late one night and wasn’t paying attention (like he was looking down) and didn’t see the oncoming car and was hit and killed. Perhaps the person who hit him was a woman and this is why he seems to only appear to them. It’s hard to say without researching more, which I will be doing. But it does seem that some poor soul is doomed to wander the country roads outside of Madera.
About 40 miles east of Fresno lies the small town of Dunlap. Like most towns in eastern Fresno County it got its start as a stage coach stop in the 1800's. For the most part this small town seems to be unremarkable except for rumors of occult activity during the early history of the area.

Legend says that some time in the mid 1800's there was a small shack on the outskirts of the town that served as a meeting place for a local cult. It was rumored that this shack was used for dark rituals designed to conjure up demons and sinister supernatural entities. The goal of these rituals were to give the members supernatural powers to help them further their sinister goals.

This went on for years until for reasons unknown the sect decided to disband and the members went on to carry normal lives. Even though no longer practicing, the group were still loyal to one another and when a member died they requested to be buried in the Dunlap Cemetery in an unmarked grave despite the fact most members no longer even lived in the area. It seems one final ritual was performed and the group conjured three tall, shadowy figures and bound them to the cemetery to protect the members buried there and seemed to be seen the most near a cluster of oak trees.

People have heard whispering voices chanting "Leave us alone!" over and over. One witness decided to disobey the whispers and ventured further into the cemetery only to hear footsteps follow them despite the fact they were alone. The voices grew louder and louder until they were no longer whispers but screams in their ears. This seemed to go on for an hour until they couldn't take it anymore and fled the cemetery.

Of course the skeptic in me questions this story and wants to chalk it up to nothing more than urban legend. People who live in the are vehemently denying the story and most claim to never even have heard of it. If it is indeed nothing more than fiction, what was the genesis of the story? That part has always interested me, that there was some story that seemed to have lasted the years and took on a life of it's own and became a living, breathing entity. People can dismiss it all they want, but the story still is out there. I'm not the only one to have written about it. And I doubt I'll be the last.
So when I saw this story making the rounds over the past few days about a strange black smoke ring seen floating over the Magic Kingdom back in May of 2015 I knew I had to investigate this.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

Watching the above video you can see a large black ring floating in the sky somewhere near the Finding Nemo Submarine ride (you can hear the "Mine. Mine" of the seagulls in the background). As the object floats in the air you can hear several people voice their concern and one even asks if they should ask a cast member (Disneyland employee) what it is. Finally after a minute or so black ring dissipates.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

Definitely interesting. It appeared to be some sort of smoke ring, but what caused it? Alien spacecraft going to light speed (maybe it was the Millennium Falcon since Disney owns that now)? Some speculate that it was some sort of wormhole to another dimension while others said it was proof of the government manipulating the weather. Curious, and a bit skeptical, I decided to dig further. And as luck would have it I found another video at Disneyland published on the same day as the previous one (May 20, 2015). It seems whatever it was, it was obvious enough to get people's attention.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

Both of these videos were shot at night, which had me thinking. I started digging some more and came upon another video showing the black ring, but this time in January 2016. And once again shot at night.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">As I was watching this other video, craving both a churro and Dolewhip, I heard the person recording the video say it was windy. And it hit me. Nighttime is when they do the firework shows and the World of Color light show (worth waiting an hour to see) in the parks. I was there in December of 2015 (as well as Oct. 2012 and May 2014) and all three times I saw World of Color and during the show they make use of fire and the pyrotechnics are arranged in a circular space. This has to be what was recorded in the above videos. Since World of Colors is in California Adventures, those in the original Disneyland park and not familiar with the show may not know what these smoke rings are from. Even if they did they still are a bit unnerving. Disneyland is known for it's immersion. There are no newspapers, radios or Tv's, or anything else that would bring the outside world in. Walt Disney wanted it that way he was so set on people being drawn into his park. So seeing a giant black smoke ring floating over the park could seem unnerving to some. Me, I'd probably not even see it as I would riding the Haunted Mansion for the 20th time.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

So sadly it wasn't a wormhole or Han and Chewie heading to KashyyyK for Life Day. Just the aftermath of some pyrotechnics.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

Like I said, I love Disneyland. But not as much as my friend Heather. Check out her website Churro Kingdom for a whole new look on the Magic Kingdom.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-59302756759310554092016-06-06T22:27:00.000-07:002016-06-06T22:28:38.177-07:00Central Valley UFO sightings for the first part of 2016As I write this it is June 6, 2016 and that means the year is almost halfway through already. Given that it's been a while since I've written anything and I'm currently in the midst of research I thought I'd browse the California UFO sightings on the National UFO Reporting Center and see if I could find anything in the Central Valley. And as usual I wasn't disappointed. I was able to find a few sightings going back all the way to the beginning of the year. The most interesting of them is the one that occurred in February in Fresno. I'd love to be able to interview this person. Their report is interesting to say the least.

I should note that I haven't edited any spelling or grammar of the posts. This is how they were submitted to the NUFORC.

As always if you've seen anything out of the ordinary in the skies report it the National UFO Reporting Center. You can find the link to report a sighting here.
Triangle objects near Kingsburg, CA.

The objects were flying in unison for the majority of the time they were viewed. They flew side by side from east to west over the 99 freeway just before the Kingsburg, CA city limits. The two objects were in site for approximately 2 – 3 minutes.

As I stopped to look, the objects flew from the 10–2 o’clock position then disappeared. The night was clear, no fog. The lights were a constant white glow. They did not change colors or flicker.
Duration:3-4 minutes

02/04/2016, Fresno, CA, Doughnut, 4-5 min, hovered, then landed super quick in front of vehicle, huge round craft, brown/gold, vanished

Mr. X Documentary File # 00701 THE CRAFT This is to document the factual events that occurred on or about 02Apr16, at or about 1:40am, in Southern California in the city of Fresno. The occurrence was witnessed by, and is conveyed by sworn testimony equivalent to, and with all judicial authority, as stated under oath by the signed witness, Mr. X. There are several items preceding File #00701, including and limited to; one drawing of Object ABC articulated by Mr. X in the presence of a close kin. After explanation to kin about Object ABC, Mr. X was asked by kin if he could draw, or recite details of Object ABC. Mr. X did articulate the main features of Object ABC on an old small paper bag. That image was then destroyed. There is a second document articulated by Mr. X detailing the occurrence encountering Object ABC.

As Mr. X was exiting the freeway into Fresno, California, using GPS from his phone as he navigated to his destination. The GPS on the phone he was using began giving false readings, and performing out of its normal functional character. Mr. X attempted to adjust the GPS as he drove on the off-ramp from Freeway 99 into Modesto, CA. About 50 to 100 feet from completing the exit ramp, Mr. X saw a strange thing seemingly hovering off to the left of the exit over-pass. As he began to focus on the object, the object seemed to flip, or slip, or shape-shift, landing in the middle of the road, on top of the over pass, directly in front of Mr. X’s vehicle. He stopped the vehicle before running into the object.

Mr. X stopped the vehicle, and tried to comprehend the sight of the huge craft, and make sense of what he was seeing. He tried to wake his children, and co-passenger. One 16-year old son sitting in the front passenger seat, one 14-year old son sitting in the rear passenger seat on the left side, and one female 18-year old female passenger sitting behind the driver’s seat. All passengers were asleep at the time of the sighting. Mr. X tried to wake everyone up, and even shook his son sitting next to him. Mr. X began to speak aloud thinking that someone may be awake and listening, “what is it? Look at this you guys. What do I do? I don’t understand. What am I supposed to do?” He asked. When no one responded, he tried once again to wake his son, then decided to do something he thought might be stupid. He thought that he couldn’t leave this moment without being absolutely sure that what he was seeing was real, and with no obstruction between his own eyes and the strange object. (He didn’t want to wonder in the future, because he knew he was seeing something that he never had seen before.) He stepped out the vehicle with one leg, and stared at the huge object, with one hand on the door as he stood straight up. He looked at the object for about what seemed to be 7 to 11 seconds, only looking into the vehicle for a split second at his passengers, and asking if they could wake up, then looking back at the object. Just then a vehicle horn honked and when he looked back, he noticed there were two vehicles stopped behind him, and a third pulled off to the right. The Third car was the vehicle that was honking. At first, Mr. X thought that they were honking at him to get back in his vehicle before the strange craft did something to hurt him. (like he was crazy for standing out in front of the craft like that, so close.) Mr. X looked again at the craft as he got back into his vehicle, and as he clasped his seat belt, the huge craft just vanished in the plume of faint smoke or gasses, which quickly dissipated. The Thing that Mr. X is calling smoke, or gassed, can a! lso be called a mist, and even visible fumes, or a cloud of something. This action of the gasses had a visual effect something akin to a visible fume, without a smell, and was all around the craft.

Mr. X then began to proceed the remaining 15 yards, or less on the off-ramp to the light. He continued to look for the object, and look at his GPS to find his way. The GPS still did not give correct magnetic north, flipping and changing routes sporadically. He drove from memory, until calling his friend that he was going to visit, and having the friend guide him to his friend’s home.

Mr. X pulled into his friend’s driveway in about 8 minutes after that. As soon as Mr. X passengers began to awake, he began talking about the Strange Craft. The first thing he said to his friend after saying a brief “Hi.” Was “I just saw an Alien Space Craft”. The friend just thought he was joking, but he wasn’t joking at all, and as Mr. X began to walk, he lost control of his legs, and became weak. The friend had to hold Mr. X up and assist him in regaining balance. The passengers, Mr. X, and the friend all entered the home, and went out back to sit in a rest area of the home for a moment.

The Craft was huge, Brownish-Gold, with tints of Green, Red, and Lots of Black. The texture was Hexed, or X / cross hatched, with some kind of braces running vertical along either side curving with the surface of the craft from top to bottom. The braces were of the same color, and were about three and a half lanes apart, on either side from the center where I was. The craft was about 50 to 60 feet high, and obscured at the top and sides with the strange black cloud, or fumes. At the bottom of the craft, about a foot and a half off the ground was pitch black, where the outline of the craft could be seen as it hovered close to the road. The craft did block the view of anything behind it, and the street under it. The craft made no sound, and had no smell. Just an eerie silence. Mr. X did get out of the vehicle, and look at the craft with his own eyes, and he did have glasses on so he could see the craft very clearly.

The craft did appear from hovering off to the left of the freeway, and did move very quickly (impossibly quick), and stopped on a dead stop in the center of the roadway. The craft did vanish, with the gas or smoke leaving a few seconds after the craft vanished. The roadway became clear and lit, and the yellow center, and white lane lines became visible all the way across the overpass, where Mr. X was to drive.

This is the sworn testimony, and statement of Mr. X, who is identified yet requests to remain anonymous for as long as possible. The events described within this report are true and accurate to the best of my recollection, and in in no way fabricated, or made-up. I swear to what I saw, and I am MR. X. I have no understanding for what I saw, and I know that the nature, and actions of this strange craft was not of anything that I have seen on Earth.

I hope this report helps, as I was asked to document the events of the evening on which I saw this Strange Unidentified Craft.

March 16, 2016. At around 9:40 pm, I had stepped out to smoke on the back patio as is typical, in my peripheral vision I saw a flash of white light at around 20 degrees from overhead in a north – west direction. I continue to watch that area knowing from past experience some satellites flash from the sun, and again it flashed as expected a little ways away from the original flash, then flashed a third time and dramatically had moved much farther away to my surprise… this thing had accelerated much faster then any fast satellite I had ever seen and in fact continue to flash periodical like skipping light on water sort of speak. It moved so fast I had to open the gate and run around to the front of the house to continue watching, as I refocused my eyes this skipping white flashing light was passing an airline on its left side about 40-50 miles away.

The direction of travel was just south of true west (~250-260 azimuth ). There was no fire trail behind as it flashed. I have seen skipping meteors before with fire trails.

I must say, it’s the seeming acceleration that is puzzling
The light was moving across the sky so fast that it managed to get my attention. It occurred to me the other day that I have been doing Weird Fresno for over seven years now and in that time I have written hundreds of stories about the weird and unusual in the Fresno area. Looking back at some of the early stories made me want to revisit them and share them with anyone new to the site. Looking through some I did in the first year I came across one of my favorite (and most popular stories). The ghosts of Roosevelt High School.

When I first wrote about Roosevelt High I had only heard of two locations that were haunted, the boys restroom in the East Hall and the school’s auditorium. Since I’ve written that article I’ve received nearly forty comments (as I write this) of people who have witnessed things in these locations as well as others I didn’t know about at the time. Now if these stories are true or not, it’s not my place to say. I’m just here to share what I’ve heard and add to the legend of Roosevelt High.

East Hall at Roosevelt High School - photo courtesy of Historic Fresno

With the boys restroom in the East Hall no one knows who it really is but it’s been rumored for years that it is the ghost of a student who committed suicide there. I’ve looked for any news article to add some validity to this but have been unable to find anything to substantiate it. That being said something has been felt there over the years and the stories cannot be discounted. One night a janitor was working late and heard coughing coming from the restroom. Thinking it was a student who had somehow snuck in and was hiding, he went to investigate the noise. Upon entering the bathroom it was completely empty and there was no way that anyone could have left it without him seeing them exit the restroom from where he standing in the hallway that he was cleaning.

For a while the restroom was closed and used for storage but was finally reopened in the 2007-2008 school year. Cold chills are sometimes felt when the door is opened even though the air is warmer everywhere else. Many students said they have felt a presence in the area and some have even heard noises as if someone was in there with them even though they were all alone.

Some of the other stories talk about how a girl supposedly jumped from the bell tower to her death and haunts the location to this day. Other stories say that she hung herself there. If either are true it’s hard to say. Another story was told to me by a student that heard from the kitchen staff that a spirit supposedly haunts the kitchen area but nothing specific was really said to them.

As I said, whether there is any truth to the above stories it’s hard to say. But the next one does have itself grounded in a true story, albeit a sad one.

Roosevelt High School Auditorium - photo courtesy of Historic Fresno

The school’s auditorium is said to be haunted by a student who was performing on stage, collapsed due to a heart attack and died. The spirit was called “Lester” and was said to roam the auditorium and sometimes play pranks on people by letting his presence be known. That was all I had heard and from the comments it seemed there was nothing more to the story. That changed a few months after I wrote the original article when a cousin of Lester’s, or Leslie as he was actually known as, contacted me to tell me the story was true.

It was October 10, 1960 and Leslie Chambers was six days away from his sixteenth birthday. It was a school assembly day and Leslie was performing a cheer on the stage of the auditorium in front of all the assembled students and faculty when he collapsed mid-performance and died on the spot. The doctors later found out he had a congenital heart defect and that was what led to his death. The school was obviously grief stricken and a memorial was quickly formed near one of the trees where Leslie and his girlfriend shared lunch each day.

It was a sad story to say the least and his cousin had contacted me so Leslie's story could be shared. I found interesting in that right after I posted that story I received some comments saying that the students in the auditorium still remember “Lester” and never forgot about him and they still consider him one of their own. One student said they were told by faculty that things would always wind up missing and they said he supposedly played pranks on students (the commentor doubted this as they felt the teacher was just messing with them but still wanted to share it). But what was said next brought a smile to my face (and maybe a tear to my eye). The students have always included him in every production done there since his death by listing his name in the cast/crew sign in sheet and it is a tradition that has been passed down over the years from student to student, class to class. Seems Leslie Chambers memory continues on, even over fifty years later.

If you have ever taken Highway 41 headed towards the coast there’s a good chance you've driven by where Highway 41 becomes Highway 46 and the infamous spot where James Dean lost his life in a tragic automobile accident in 1955.

On the night of September 30, 1955 Dean was driving along then U.S. Route 466 towards Salinas in his Porsche 550 Spyder nicknamed "Lil Bastard". At a little bit after 5:00 pm, a 2950 Ford Tuder was trying to turn away from an intersection and was in the center of the road. Dean was unable to stop at the time and slammed into the driver side of the Ford and skidded across the road onto the side of the highway. The Ford driver was relatively uninjured. Dean's mechanic, who had been in the passenger seat, was ejected from the car and suffered major injuries and survived. Dean wasn't as lucky and suffered a broken neck and died at the scene.

Although Dean passed onto legend peacefully, Lil Bastard has a bit of a sinister legend of it's own. The car was supposedly cursed and George Barris bought the wrecked vehicle for parts. When the car arrived at his garage it fell off the trailer and broke his mechanic's leg.

Soon after that the engine and transmission were sold to some doctors who wanted to used the parts in their own race cars. In their first race, one car spun out of control and hit a tree killing the driver. The other car rolled taking a turn, yet this driver was lucky (relatively speaking) and was only severely injured.

Most of what I just said is common knowledge regarding Dean's death and the car. But the other day I came across a story of Lil Bastard sometimes still being seen on Hwy 46 where that tragic accident occurred. Could Dean be damned for all eternity to drive this stretch of road? Most likely not. If the car is indeed seen, it's most likely a residual haunting where something so tragic happens and imprints itself onto the surrounding area. That and countless James Dean fans have journeyed to the site to pay their respects, no doubt adding to the energy that's already there.

Next time you are heading towards the coast, stop at the memorial if you can. There's even a small restaurant called Jack Ranch cafe has good food and even some Dean memorabilia. And if you are driving along the road and see a Porsche Spyder in your rear view mirror, make sure to let them pass. And then take a photo for me please.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-41764108530782088812014-10-30T23:17:00.000-07:002014-11-07T19:53:34.821-08:00Does the ghost of a murdered girl haunt an oak tree near Sanger?A reader shared this with me last week about a weird encounter that happened to his cousin outside of Sanger late one night. This is what he sent me:

Alright so here's a true story that happened to my cousin. He's about 14 years older than me, I'm 35. This happened to him in the early 90's. He was going to college and was working graveyard part time at one of those convenient gas stations that's open 24 hours. He lives in Parlier but he used to work that job in Sanger. This happened one night in the winter. He got off around 1 in the morning and he would take Newmark to get from Sanger to Parlier. He was driving and it was foggy so he was going slow. He was going down Newmark when he sees what looks like a young girl walking down the side of the road. My cousin is genuinely a good guy, a good Samaritan type. He pulls over and lowers the window and asks "hey did you need a ride" the girl keeps walking and doesn't even turn around. He tries one last time, and he asks again "are you okay, do you need a ride." He said he turned the light on in his car for whatever reason, but after he asked that 2nd time, she poked her head in the car and repeated verbatim what he asked her. He said she had the ugliest face ever, like someone over did it or got crazy with black make up. After she spoke she started laughing and he said that laugh sent shivers down his spine. He freaked out and sped off. He said after that he NEVER took Newmark to get home when he was getting off late.

Creepy story to say the least and it reminds me of the stories I've heard that happened on Channel Road. Talking to the person some more they told me of a local Sanger story of a young girl that was supposedly raped and killed by an oak tree on Newmark and Central and haunts the road where she was killed. He thinks this is what his cousin saw driving on Newmark late that one night.

The oak tree in question. Just south of Newmark and Central. Image courtesy of Google Maps.

Looking at a map I saw this was very close to Snake Road. I'm still researching this story, but if it's true could this be the actual origin for the Snake Road ghost? Granted they are very different stories, but is it more than just coincidence that two haunts are near each other? I've already been on record saying that I think the Snake Road story is nothing more than a retelling of La Llorona. But I've witnessed weird things on that road and know others who have as well. Could the things I and others have witnessed actually be this poor woman haunting the area and people used her story to spin a cautionary tale for Snake Road? Or is Sanger cursed with two ghosts that both share tragic, but different tales?
Hell I've wrote about my favorite (and not so favorite). Watching American Horror Story Freak Show and freaking out at all the scenes of Stabby the Clown (I still refuse to call him Twisty) it got me into thinking of some of the biggest "what the fuck" moments I've seen in horror movies. So with Halloween in a week I thought I'd do another Top 5 horror movies, this time the biggest WTF momemnts.

Number 5: Misery - the hobbling scene
When I think of Kathy Bates and horror I think of this scene (and the nude hot tub scene she did in About Schmidt *wretch*). I remember watching this movie and getting terrified as Kathy Bates' character descended more and more into madness. Then this scene came up and as soon as that sledge hit poor Sonny Corleone's foot I was screaming in shared agony. But when she says "God I love you." I was effing done. To me movies like this will always scare the shit out of me more than gory ones.

Number 4: The Exorcist - spider crawl scene
Another of my favorite horror movies (I even sweded it) and this scene is seriously a huge WTF moment. This scene is just plain wrong. Something about seeing Regan walking backwards like that down the stairs is just plain wrong. This was cut out of the original theatrical release, but not because it terrified people so much as the legends say. It was cut because the special effects of the day weren't able to make the scene believable. The scene was reinserted later when the wires holding up the actress were digitally removed.

Number 3: Dead Alive - the lawnmower scene
Oh Peter Jackson, I love you man but after watching this movie I wonder how in the hell he was able to convince New Line to do Lord of the Rings. Don't get me wrong, I love Dead Alive, it's one of my favorite zombie movies, but going from this to LotR baffles me (yes I know he's done movies in between but still). That being said I had heard of this movie for years and the famous lawn mower scene. Let me just say Rick on Walking Dead could learn from this scene. Interesting bit of trivia here. This scene used over 300 liters of blood, a record for fake blood used in one scene.

Number 2: Scanners - head explosion
Something about this scene. I swear there are times where I wish I was Michael Ironside and I had his head exploding powers. I sometimes catch myself staring intently at someone annoying me, but the only thing that happens is I get a headache and a weird look from the person. That being said this is one of my favorite death scenes and definitely a WTF moment.

Number 1: The Shining - guy in dog costume
Oh Stanley Kubrick you bat shit insane man. I could have done an entire post dedicated to you (perhaps in the future I will) but I had to go with this scene from The Shining as when I first saw it I literally said "what the fuck?" The scene where Wendy is running wildly through The Overlook when she comes across a man in a dog costume getting real friendly with a guy in a suit. It was just so random and chaotic and made no sense. Only years later when reading the book did I find out that the man in the suit was a former owner of the hotel and the guy in the dog suit was his lover. The movie didn't go into this story, so I don't know if Kubrick had to cut the story or just threw this in just to add to the chaos of the scene. Whatever the case it's the most bat shit fucked up scene I've ever seen. Even the screen clip shot below is just fucking weird. Scenes like this are why Kubrick was the best at what he did. Mind fucking with you.

So that's it. Bit different I know. Have a favorite WTF scene of your own? Let me know. I love a good mind fuck.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-22951042527343772182014-10-15T19:31:00.000-07:002014-10-15T19:34:31.480-07:00Weird Fresno wants to hear your ghost stories!So I want to share some ghost stories for Halloween, but not mine. It seems everyone has a ghost story or knows someone who has. And I want to hear them, but don't e-mail me. I want to hear the story in your own words and the emotions that came with your story.

Whoever wants to share their story, call the Weird Fresno hotline at (559) 481-1057. From now until October 30 I will take any call and will compile all the stories together (I can download them as a .mp3 file) and upload it to YouTube and on Halloween post it and share it with everyone.
Yeah definitely not Krusty the Clown there.

As I was watching American Horror Story: Freak Show over the weekend and being terrified by what I have named Stabby the Clown (I know he's called Twisty, I don't care), it got me to thinking of the creepy clown sightings down in Wasco (which is near Bakersfield). For those who haven't heard (seriously where have you been?) an individual dressed as a clown has been posting photos to Facebook and Instagram that were taken around the town of Wasco. It's even gone as far as using Twitter to let it's <strike>victims</strike> fans know where it will be next.

At first it seemed to be just one individual posting photos but soon others popped up and began posting photos of their own. No one really knows what's going on. If it is just copycats of the original Wasco Clown, a theater group having some early Halloween fun, or some evil cult of devil worshiping clowns trying to take over Wasco. I say all of these are wrong and I know the true answer.

This:

That's right Killer Klowns for Outer Space are back.

Think about it. In the original move they were aliens that looked like creepy clowns and invaded a small California town looking for victims to eat. Well Wasco is a small California town and this time the clowns are using social media to lure their victims into a false sense of security (seriously who feels safe after watching Stabby on American Horror Story) and then do whatever they wish with them.

Whatever the case may be, its definitely Halloween season. Let's just hope this guy doesn't come up to Fresno. My sister just got a gun and she hates clowns.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-48443573548789255332014-10-06T22:38:00.000-07:002014-10-06T22:38:47.666-07:00Recent UFO sightings over Central California

The site never disappoints and I was able to find several and I wanted to share them in hopes that maybe someone else saw the same thing and can report their sighting as well. If you do see something strange in the sky don’t hesitate to report it to NUFORC.

We live just outside of Yosemite National Park in a small rural town in the foothills. It was Thursday, October 2, 2014, between 2:30 am and 3 am. I was looking out of my bathroom window towards the southeast sky as I sometimes do to admire the night sky. First I noticed that the Big Dipper was very bright and then something right below it, near the horizon, I noticed a ball of colored lights twinkling. At first I thought it was an airplane but it didn't move. It just twinkled bright red and green lights. I knew couldn't be a star because all the stars are bright and white.

My husband was still sitting at his desk at his laptop as I told him what I was doing. He went outside with me to see if we could view it better. Sure enough, there it was...still shinning brightly with red and green lights, like a small ball just twinkling on the horizon looking southeast of our house. It never moved from the spot just below the Big Dipper and the rest of the stars. In other words...its position only moved with the earth's rotation.

We had a pair of binoculars with us to see the stars better. I walked inside the house for a moment when I heard my husband yelling my name in an urgent manner so I ran back outside and he was looking up at the sky in Northwest direction. I looked up and saw a red light low in the sky, moving slowly from North to South directly over a house about 4 houses down. As it came into my view, a second light was directly behind it. The distance between the two lights was about four times the distance of the length of a helicopter. As I watched, a third red light came on next to the second red light making a shape of a triangle.

I had never seen anything even close to this size; it was enormous. I also noticed there was no sound at all. The object was extremely low so it was odd that it was completely silent. As soon as I realized this was no ordinary object, I called for my son who also came running outside and witnessed this as well. I had the binoculars at the time so I watched the object through the binoculars for the remainder of the sighting.

As I watched through the binoculars all three red lights stayed on at once for a short time and then one of them turned off but I could still see the sphere, it was dark grey or black. All of a sudden all of the spheres turned white at the same time for a couple seconds and then two of the lights turned off while only one white light remained. I could still see the spheres with the binoculars, but when I looked at the object without the binoculars I could only see the white light. At this point the object appeared to be an ordinary aircraft with my naked eyes. We continued to watch the object for a few minutes until it was too far to see anymore.

Over the weekend I decided to see the new horror/thriller film Deliver Us From Evil, inspired by true life demonologist (and former NYPD officer) Ralph Sarchie. I was a bit familiar with Ralph Sarchie as I knew he had trained under Ed and Lorraine Warren (the investigators that were portrayed in last years horror hit The Conjuring) so I was looking forward to seeing how Deliver Us From Evil would be.

I won’t give away any spoilers, but I will say this. This movie isn’t based on one event (as were films like The Conjuring or Amityville Horror) but was a mashup of different cases that Sarchie did over the years (hence the inspired by disclaimer and not based on a true story one). That being said it still didn’t take away from the entertainment value of the film, Eric Bana did a good job of portraying Sarchie and you could see him struggling with the paranormal events that were occurring and trying to make sense of things. Though to me the most interesting character was Father Mendoza (played by Edgar Ramirez), a fictional priest who assists Sarchie with the exorcisms and was based on two priests, Bishop Robert McKenna and Father Malachi Martin, two real life demonologists that assisted Sarchie in what he did over the years. Sean Harris played the main antagonist Santino, and he did a great job with the creep factor through the entire movie. The climax of the film was the climax of the film. I don’t want to give much away, but it was one of the better exorcism scenes I’ve seen in a while.

The story itself was well done, though it had me wondering what case inspired what part. The scares were definitely there, though I wish a scene with Sarchie’s daughter was expanded on cause it definitely was the creepiest. I’m glad I didn't see the trailer until after, because one of the creepiest scenes was shown in the trailer. I get why they do that, to lure you in. But you need to have more to that scene, which they really didn't. That being said the final act of the movie goes about a different way in showing an exorcism performed

I liked the movie, but it’s not the best one I’ve seen. Definitely won’t make my list of worst horror movies ever (which I think I need to do another one btw, I'm looking at you The Purge), but I don’t know if it’s because I’ve seen this same type of movie before and the scares have been done or if it’s something else. What saves this movie is the actors portrayal of their characters, especially that of Bana and Ramirez. Those two had some great chemistry and if the producers try to make a series out of this I’d like to see both actors come back.

All in all I’d recommend seeing it. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. And I’ve learned never to buy my children (when they exist) a jack in the box or a talking owl head. Actually anything to do with creepy dolls is out altogether. Horror movies have taught me that much.

Looks innocent doesn't he?

I love strange creature stories and am always lamenting the fact that the Central Valley is lacking in them (unless you want to count the numerous sighting of dogs with mange being reported as Chupacabras). So imagine my surprise (and a bit of shock) when I came across a story of a supposedly evil gnome that was terrorizing a farm house near Porterville.

The first incident occurred when a woman by the name of Tammy moved herself and her three children into a small farmhouse on the Tule River near Porterville. Soon after moving in Tammy started feeling like something was watching them and had an uneasy feeling ever time she walked by the old barn. For some reason most of the animals on the farm seemed to avoid the rickety old building and soon she noticed that the number of her ducks and chickens had started to dwindle, but couldn't figure out why. She was soon going to have an idea why.

One night Tammy and her son were coming back from grocery shopping when, as she parked the car and got out, noticed movement to her right. Thinking nothing of it she picked up a grocery bag and noticed it again, this time accompanied by what she described as a "very freaky, very evil sounding chuckle". Looking in the direction of the noise Tammy noticed about 50 yards from her a small humanoid looking figure. Or as she described it, a gnome.

The figure was about two to three feet in height, wore black baggy pants and a gold colored shirt. The face was partially covered by a long salt and pepper beard and on top of the head was a long, red pointed hat. The nose was large and bulbous and the eyes were rather deep set. As the figure grinned at them, Tammy noticed that the grin was almost from ear to ear and the teeth looked to be an ugly brown color and appeared to be either pointed or jagged.

Horrified, Tammy dropped the groceries and grabbed her son and ran off towards the house with the cackling little man right on her heels. Tammy was able to get inside the house and was in the midst of telling her two daughters what she saw, when she saw movement outside the kitchen window. Upon investigating she saw the top of the figure's red pointed hat moving back and forth underneath the window. Finally after what must have seemed like an eternity, the figure disappeared and Tammy was able to get the groceries from the car. This was the only time she actually saw the figure, but until she moved out she would always hear creepy chuckling coming from the old barn, as if it was taunting her or something.

You would think that this would be an isolated occurrence, but it seems the gnome wasn't satisfied with just terrorizing Tammy and her family.

In March of 2010 a family moved in to the same house on the Tule River. According to the wife, Charlie, it was perfect for what their family needed. Her husband took a particular liking to a pond on the property and decorated it with fairy, gnome, and toadstool yard ornaments and stocked it with Japanese koi fish. Not surprisingly, Charlie and her family also had an eerie feeling about the old barn on the property and tried to stay away from it as much as possible.

One night, at around 3:00 am, Charlie and her husband were woken by what can only be described as a "raspy, gurgling singing". Charlie and her husband looked out their bedroom window and what they saw defied what they considered their reality. Standing by the pond and holding one of the garden gnomes was a creature that came out of a Grimm's fairy tale, as Charlie described it. The creature was two to three feet tall, wearing maroon pants and a baggy yellow shirt with a brown vest over it and a dark waistcoat. It had a large gray beard and was wearing a reddish brown pointed hat. Charlie went on to say the most horrible part of the creature were its eyes and teeth. When it grinned it's teeth appeared to be jagged and pointed and the eyes were small and beady and had a dark mean look to them.

Apparently the creature saw the couple looking at him (it?) and reached into the pond and grabbed a koi and dropped it into its mouth and swallowed it. Furious, Charlie's husband pushed open the window and yelled at the creature to leave the yard or he'd call the police. The gnome grinned and laughed as he gave them the finger and disappeared. The police were called, being notified that an "intruder" was on the property, but when they got there an hour later the only evidence that was found was small footprints, about the size of a child's, around the pond.

This wasn't the only time the gnome would visit the pond. Night after night it would be seen holding a yard ornament and eating a fish. The family eventually wised up and moved the ornaments and put the fish into a tank inside the house. Apparently this didn't go over well with the gnome. Upon the usual time of its appearance of 3:00 am, when the gnome saw that the yard ornaments and fish had been removed it went into a crazed frenzy and began yelling and screaming in some language that nobody could understand. But they understood it was pissed. It began to run around the house screaming in whatever language was native to it. The family felt safe until Charlie realized the dog door in the kitchen was unlocked and feared the creature would try to enter the house through that. She was able to lock and then ran upstairs to close the rest of the windows. The last they heard of the creature was a very loud screeching, cackling sound that was heard underneath one of the living room windows. Charlie's husband went to investigate and saw the top of the creature's hat underneath the window.

Given all that had gone on the family decided to get out of the house and Porterville in general. One has to ask, was this the same creature that Tammy saw a few years prior? I first heard of both Tammy and Charlie's story on MysteriousUniverse.org and it seems the author of the article was able to put the two women in contact with each other. After exchanging info and indeed confirming that both had lived on the same property, they agreed to meet and revisit the property where their terrifying encounters had occurred. Upon arrival, they noticed the barn structure that had given both of them an eerie feeling had been torn down but the property still had that dark feel to it. Before they left they decide to knock on the front door of the house to see if anyone was home. A woman answered but was not happy to see them and told them to leave the premises after being asked about the barn or if she had experienced anything weird.

This story intrigues me to say the least. First you have two witnesses describing a similar looking creature that they saw years apart from one another. Then you have a creature that is known only in folklore but is usually of a pleasant nature, not the mean asshole that was seen by the two women (for some reason I find it hilarious that he flipped off Charlie and her husband). So what did these two women see? I'm going on a different theory here and I know I'll probably get more grief than I usually do, but I think what Tammy and Charlie saw was one of the fairy folk. Namely a redcap.

Redcaps come from English folklore and were said to be a type of malevolent murderous fairy that mostly inhabited ruined castles found along the border between England and Scotland. They would murder any traveler who was foolish enough to stray into their homes. Redcaps got their names from the practice of dying their hats with the blood of their victims. They were described as having the appearance of an old man with red eyes and large teeth.

So how in the hell did a mean little creature straight out of English folklore get all the way to Central California? Remember the United States used to be a British Colony and the early colonist brought over their beliefs from their home land. What if somehow the things they believed in became real? Tibetan Buddhism has a concept called a Tulpa, or a thought form. Basically the idea behind it is that if something is concentrated on enough it is somehow brought into existence.

What if some of the early settlers that came here still held a belief that redcaps were real? So real that they took form and had a life of their own? And over the many years the now very real redcap wandered the country and somehow wound up in California. How else do you explain what was seen? If it was just one person that saw the creature the idea of a hoax of prank could be brought into consideration. But the fact that two people saw the same thing years apart has me wondering what the hell is on the outskirts of Porterville.

Now obviously this is merely conjecture and nothing more. It can't be real; it's just some creature out of a fairy tale right? Tell that to both Tammy and Charlie. Whatever they saw was real to them and it scared the hell out of them. And I have a feeling it's still there, waiting to terrorize someone else.

Since I found this story on another site I feel I have to link back to the original MysteriousUniverse article. You can find it here.

Also it seems the show Monsters and Mysteries on the Destination America network did a story on the creature. You can find the episdode on YouTube but you have to pay $1.99 to see it. I see the show on all the time and imagine they probably run repeats of this episode.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com44tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-13113164477765897572014-01-31T00:05:00.000-08:002014-01-31T00:07:15.481-08:00Does the spirit of a police officer haunt Friant Road?

It amazes me that after researching stories in the Fresno area that I am still discovering new ones. The fact that this story has been around for over 10 years and I have never heard of it until last Saturday night amazes me even more.

I was with a group of friends heading up towards Lost Lake Park to investigate the area. Unfortunately when we got to the park, it was already closed. Deciding we would come back when it was open later (it closes at 7:00 right now, but starting April 1 it closes at 10:00) we headed back down Friant towards Fresno. As we were driving back I brought up the fact that there were multiple traffic related deaths on the road and wondered if anyone could possibly haunt it. One of my friends asked me if I had ever heard of the police officer who died on the road and now haunts it, pulling over anyone who was speeding or driving dangerously. This was the first I heard of it and asked him how he had heard the story. He told me his dad had encountered the officer himself. This is what happened according to his dad:

His dad was driving down Friant late one night, speeding as the road had hardly any traffic. He took a turn when he saw the familiar red and blue lights of a patrol car flashing behind him. He pulled over and waited for the officer to approach him. When the officer got to the window he asked the driver if he knew how fast he was going and said that he should be more careful as there are always traffic accidents on that stretch of road and he could have been killed taking a turn too fast. But he was in a good mood and decided to write a “warning” ticket and let the driver go on his way. Confused as to what the ticket was for, he went to the station the next day to find out. When he showed the ticket to the officer at the front desk, the officer was surprised and asked him where he got it from as they haven’t used that particular one in years. He told them he was pulled over by a police officer and was given the ticket as a warning. They decided to check the badge number to see who had wrote it. When the officer looked it up, there was a look of shock on their face. That particular officer had died on Friant Road several years ago. It seemed even in death he was patrolling the road to make sure no one met the same fate he did.

I found the story interesting, particularly because their was a piece of actual evidence (my friend is trying to get in touch with his dad about the ticket). Curious as to if there was any credence to the story, I posted on Facebook the next day posing the question as to if Friant Road was haunted given all the accidents that have occurred over the years. So imagine my surprise when two separate people told me the almost exact same story. That a phantom police officer was pulling over people for driving too fast and issuing them a warning. When they would inquire about the officer they were told he died on that road. Just out of curiosity I contacted a friend who is a local police officer and he too had heard the story. Now we have a legend, someway, somehow this story was getting around. The question is whether there is any validity to it or not.

Researching deaths, I did find one officer died on Friant, but it was in 2011 and he was off duty. When I went back to Lost Lake on Monday to take some photos I noticed that there was an officer memorial sign as I passed Willow Ave. Could this be the name of the ghost? I was able to find the officers obituary and he did die in 2003, but not on Friant but near Fowler. Could these two stories have some merged into one? Don’t believe so as the first story I was told occurred before 2011.

So is there any truth to this story? As usual it’s hard to separate fact from fiction. This story has to have a genesis as all and somehow it grew bigger and bigger, having a life of its own. The best course of action right now is to research the road and see if any other officer died on it or if possible to get the ticket mentioned to me from the other night. But even I can’t find anything concrete, could there still be some truth to this story? Have people actually been pulled over on Friant Road late at night by a phantom police officer, one who is trying to prevent the same fate that occurred to him on that road years ago? It’s hard to say, but given what I've been told I wouldn't be surprised.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-4534821066606510222013-11-21T09:30:00.000-08:002013-11-21T09:30:00.137-08:00Unknown object seen on ground in Madera County as strange lights circle overhead

Browsing through the MUFON site a few days ago I noticed
that they have an interactive map displaying UFO sightings based on their
location. Curious as to if there was anything of interest in the Fresno area
besides the typical out of focus man made aircraft that are prolific on
YouTube. So you can imagine my school girl-esque excitement (shut up) when I
came across a sighting that occurred in October of 2011 near the intersection
of Highway 41 and Avenue 12 in Madera County. The sighting not only included multiple
strange craft in the air, but some sort of craft was also seen on the ground.

The report states that a mother and her two teenage sons
were driving north on Highway 41 in Madera County just north of Fresno on the
night of October 5, 2011 at around 10:30 pm. As they neared the intersection of
Hwy. 41 and Ave. 12 one of her sons noticed multiple (he estimated around 10)
"fuzzy white orbs" flying erratically in the night sky just east of
the intersection, zooming in and around the clouds. All three watched the
lights for until they stopped at the intersection and made a left
turn onto Ave. 12 headed west toward the Madera Ranchos. It seems the boys
convinced their mother to turn back around to the intersection to see if they
could get a better view of the objects in question.

Upon stopping at the intersection, the mother then made a
left turn back onto Hwy. 41 and headed north again. They were still watching
the lights in the clouds (I'm assuming the mother was driving half slow and
craning her neck to see cause that's how I always do it when I see something
strange in the sky) when, just past Ave. 12, they passed a barn on the eastern
side of Hwy. 41 and noticed a large triangle shaped object in the fields
surrounding the barn. The object was described as being rather large and with its
"tip" pointed up. Also there were white blinking lights on each of
its vertices.

I'm assuming at this point the three witnesses were spooked
by whatever they saw on the ground as the report then states the mother turned
the vehicle around and drove home (wherever that may be). I know that stretch
of road and there aren't that many spots near Ave. 12 to make a safe u-turn, so
whatever they saw scared them enough to make a quick u-turn on a busy highway.

To be honest this one is just plain weird. I know that
stretch of road, having driven it hundreds of times, and that barn is quite
familiar given its high visibility from the highway. The lights in the sky
could be debunked as spotlights circling around and reflecting off the clouds,
but I'm not sure on that. The report states that the witnesses describe the
objects as having a "star like center". If you've ever seen a
spotlight you know it looks nothing like that. And what of the strange
triangular object that was seen on the ground? I've read dozens if not hundreds
of UFO cases over the years and never heard anything similar to that being
described. It just seems "odd". That and with the addition of the
strange lights seen in the sky it's just hard to say.

To sum it up I'm a bit lost on this one as to whether what
the witnesses really saw was something strange or just something regular that
was mistaken for something else. I'm hoping that someone else saw something,
sees this article, and can elaborate on what was seen. Otherwise we may never
know what was seen on that October night.

My encounter with the ghosts of Adelaida Cemetery.I've been searching for ghosts, UFOs, monsters, you name it, for over a decade now and everyone always asks me when I was the most scared. Normally I tell them the story of Fidget the Necromancer hitting on my friend Scott (a story I need to put on here one day), but that's just for laughs. The one time I was truly scared shitless was on one of my very first investigations.

A family of tombstones dating from the late 1800's

It was the summer of 2000 and I had formed my first paranormal investigation group with several friends of mine who also shared the same interest in the paranormal as I did. After doing a few local investigations we felt we were ready to do something bigger. I had recently purchased Haunted Places: The National Directory by Dennis Hauck which lists haunted locations by state. After checking out what was near us, I came across a story of a haunted cemetery outside of Paso Robles. It was a small cemetery by the name of Adelaida and it went back to at least the mid 1800's. The story behind the haunting was that sometime during the late 1800's a woman was distraught over the death of her two children after they had succumbed to diphtheria during an outbreak. Finally she couldn't handle the loss anymore and out of desperation (and probably madness) took her own life. But it seems that even in the afterlife she continued to mourn for her children. According to the book she would appear on Friday nights between the hours of 10:00 pm and midnight and leave flowers on her children's grave. Perfect. We had a story and a time and place for us to be. We decided to this would be our next investigation.

A sign hanging from a tree located in the cemetery.

Our researcher called up the cemetery district to dig up more information on the story and to make sure it was ok for us to investigate at night. The cemetery district was more than open to the idea of us investigating (something rare these days) and even gave us the name of the ghost we were looking for, Charlotte Sitton. As Friday approached I was anxious; we had investigated local cemeteries but this was different. This cemetery was in a nationally published book and to me that meant something big (mind you this was before the advent of social networking and Google wasn't the search engine giant it is now). Finally Friday 5:00 hit and I met up with the other three of the group and we headed off to Paso Robles expecting to arrive at the cemetery around 9:30 or so.

The front gate to Adelaida Cemetery.

We arrived at the cemetery's front gate almost exactly at 9:30. I marveled at the location, it was heavily wooded and rather hilly, which is different than the cemeteries here in Fresno. We parked on the road and walked through the pedestrian gate. Our game plan was to find Charlotte's two children's graves (since it was said that she left flowers on their graves) and investigate around that area. As we started to walk around we noticed that most of the graves were from the 1940's to the present. This didn't sync with the story taking place in the late 1800's, but upon further investigation we found the older part of the cemetery up on a hill. As 10:00 approached it was decided the four of us should split up into two groups of two in order to cover ground faster. Myself and my friend Scott would take the portion of the cemetery near the front gate and my other two friend's Tom and Fred would explore the portion up on the hill. If either found the graves we were looking for we would notify the other.

A portion of the cemetery I explored. Note the dense covering of dead leaves on the ground.

As 10:00 approached Scott and I started exploring our section of the cemetery. Most graves were from the 20th Century, but I felt it was best to check every grave just to make sure. I didn't want to skip a portion and then find out later it was what we were looking for. As we started walking around we began to hear crunching noises about twenty feet from us. The ground was heavily littered with dried oak leaves (the trees there nearly formed a canopy over the cemetery) and every time you walked you would make a crunching sound as you crushed the foliage underfoot. What we were hearing sounded exactly like this. Problem was, Scott and I were the only ones there. I looked up at the hill where Tom and Fred were at and I could see their flashlights so I knew it wasn't them. As we walked around the footsteps would follow us, only stopping when I called out to see if anyone was there and then starting back up again when we would continue to walk. If I didn't know any better I'd say we were being followed. And while all of this was going on I happened to look up at the hill and notice both Tom and Fred's flashlights waving around wildly and even heard Tom yell out something (he was too far away for me to be able to make out what he said). Soon after this the foot steps stopped. And then I hear from Tom as he's coming down the hill.

"We found Charlotte's grave."

Excited, both Scott and I run up to meet him and Fred. He shows us the grave and inscribed on the tombstone it read "Charlotte Sitton". I was excited that we had found the grave and noticed that her two children's graves were next to it. As I started taking pictures I asked Tom if he had been down in our area at all to which he replied he hadn't. When asking me why and I mentioned hearing the footsteps, his face went blank for a second. He said that both he and Fred heard the same thing and assumed it was us playing a joke on them at first.

I described to him what happened while we were searching for Charlotte's grave. What's interesting is that he and Fred heard their set of footsteps around the same time as we did. He continued to say that their footsteps were more active and at one point sounded like several persons running around them. Not sure who it was he shined his flashlight around trying to see where they were coming from (this is what I saw when I was down on the lower portion of the cemetery) and started calling out for anyone who was there to show themselves (once again this was what I heard). Here's where the story gets even more interesting. Tom went on to say as he was shining his flashlight around, it passed over Fred and landed on a shadowy figure. That figure, once noticed, began to move and disappeared behind a tombstone. Tom ran over there to see where it went and noticed the name on the marker. Charlotte Sitton.

Charlotte's grave with the four of us standing around it looking like we were bad asses. Oh to be 23 again.

He said after that the activity stopped. And indeed the rest of the night was quiet. We stayed until about 12:30 taking pictures and hoping Charlotte would show back up. But we knew that she had already made herself known and wanted us to find her grave. As we left we thanked her and I said a small prayer as I closed the gate.

I've done over a hundred investigations since that hot summer night back in August of 2000, but it's still fresh in my mind as if it had happened just last night. I was truly terrified by what I was experiencing at the time. Now it might have been due to my lack of any experience, but I've had encounters before. Once at my mom's old house where I saw my first ghost and a cemetery in Madera County where both Tom and I heard what sounded like little girls laughing, despite the fact that we were alone. So why was this different? Was it the footsteps, the shadowy figure? Or maybe it was both those and the story. Here was a story, and a sad one at that, that seemed to have some credence to it as we witnessed what the story is said to occur. I'm convinced it was Charlotte and her children we heard, and she that Tom saw that night. Yes I have no evidence, but that doesn't matter. Turns out that we are now part of the legend.

An abandoned building located on the cemetery grounds.

Our group lasted a few more months and then disbanded, real life having taking a priority. But I kept up on the paranormal, especially as the internet became more and more prevalent. So imagine my surprise one day when I was on a site called Shadowlands.net, which lists haunted locals by state, when I saw one on Adelaida Cemetery. I started reading it and it was the same story as I had read in my book years ago (which I still have btw, though there have been two newer publications since). The listing mentioned the story as I had heard it but with a bit extra added on. It mentioned how a group went there on a Friday night in the summer of 2000, heard mysterious footsteps and encountered Charlotte. Could this be us? I checked a couple of other sites and they said the same thing. Somehow our story got out there and was added to the legend of Charlotte. To me that's better than getting the best piece of evidence.

Sadly the cemetery doesn't allow investigations anymore. When I was with CCPI we had inquired about investigating but was turned down due to the heavy vandalism that occurred there. Seems a lot of thrill seekers wanted to see Charlotte for themselves and ruined it for everybody else. CCPI and I did go there one weekend to help clean up the cemetery and offered to clean the area around Charlotte's grave. The place looked the same as it did almost ten years before, but it broke my heart when I saw Charlotte's grave was broken at the base. To say this was disrespectful is putting it lightly to say the least. Still we cleaned up as best we could, cutting weeds around a good area of the cemetery. I did say hi to Charlotte, though I didn't receive a response. Though I know it wasn't my fault, I did apologize for the vandalism that had occurred. But I did thank her for that night and the story that I get to tell people about the one time I was truly terrified. I like to think she appreciates the fact she isn't really forgotten.

Note: I want to apologize for the poor image quality. The originals were lost years ago and the scans were lost when a hard drive crashed (this was way before the cloud) and all I was able to find were these photos. I did have one of Charlotte's grave, but it was so small that you couldn't make out any detail. Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01619208752908517226noreply@blogger.com4Adelaida Cemetery, California 93446, USA35.6565522 -120.8739835000000110.1345177 -162.1825775 61.1785867 -79.565389500000009tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3194877593098306762.post-46989452171562147312013-10-24T10:00:00.000-07:002013-10-24T10:00:01.972-07:00Halloween attractions for 2013I was recently asked what local Halloween events were going on in the Fresno area and I realized that it was time to update my list and figured this was a good time to do it. This is only a small sample of what's going on over Halloween weekend. Schools and churches will be doing their thing (I wonder if the churches would appreciate me linking to them? :D). If I missed anyting please comment and I will add it to the list. And for the love of God people, stop saying there is nothing to do in Fresno. Because there is.
