High Times goes searching for Bigfoot

Reports of sightings of Bigfoot in pot country are on the rise.

I have to be honest. When I first came across this article I thought it was a joke. Combining the topics of marijuana and Bigfoot just reeks of satire. But to my surprise, the article was quite serious. The author of the article goes into detail about the history of the creature and also the history of his two guides and what got them into searching for the legendary creature.

Its way too long of an article to post here, but giving a brief synopsis the group is up in the Cascade Mountains in an area known for pot growing, looking for Bigfoot. While camping the only incident that was noteworthy was of a foul stench that was detected near their camp. After investigating the surrounding area and finding several half eaten fish quite a distance from the river, the group gives up. They speculate that the stench was a Bigfoot and that the fish were carried to higher ground by the creature as well.

Like I said, I had my doubts when reading this (long) article. I figured it would have just been a bunch of pot heads hot boxing a tent and then go search for Bigfoot. Seems that I was wrong (for once). Though I wonder if the stench they detected was Bigfoot getting into the author’s stash?

History Channel's Monster Quest recently filmed episode in Fresno

A few months ago I had posted on how Fresno had it's own Bigfoot hunter, Dave Raygoza. He and Jeff Gonzales from the Sanger Paranormal Society had recently done a Bigfoot expedition up in the Sierra Nevada mountains back in May 2009 in hopes of finding something. They had set up a few trail cameras, hoping that something would pass in front of the sensor and then set off the camera and capturing whatever it was. Mostly they caught deer and other wildlife typical to the area. Except for one picture.

What you see is directly from the site and has been both enhanced and outlined to show a human sized figured standing by a tree. Once the group saw this photo they decided to investigate the area and see if they could determine if something natural caused this photo or if it was possibly Bigfoot. They ruled out the chance that it was a bear as the slope of the hill was near 45 degrees and it would have been hard for a bear to stand up like that. They took several photos of the site for comparison, you can go here to see them for yourself.

Apparently word got out of this Bigfoot photo as they were on Coast to Coast AM a few weeks ago. Even better is that the History Channel's Monster Quest show (a show that explores sightings of different cryptids throughout the world) was doing a story on another Bigfoot hunter out of Hanford, a
Joseph Walls, and wanted to re-enact his Bigfoot sighting when they heard about Dave and Jeff's photo, they decided to interview them as well.

Jeff sent me a few photos from the interview which I am posting below. Also the episode of Monster Quest is to air some time in January 2010. When I find out the actual date I will post an update.

Possible Bigfoot Expedition in Fresno County This Summer

I had reported in an earlier post about several Bigfoot sightings above Hunnington Lake, near the Florence Lake area. I was talking to Tom a few days ago about it and he is still interested. It would most likely be late summer or even early fall.

What he wants to do is hike in there during the early part of summer and set up a few field cameras (these are cameras that hunters mount to trees and an IR sensor is tripped whenever an object passes in front of it) at spots that we think will get us some good shots. We'll then mark their locations on a GPS device and hike back on out.

A map of the area, Hunnington Lake is on the left, Florence is to the right

After a few weeks then the main expedition can go in there. I'm thinking of a party of six to eight people. This is going to be rough territory so we will definitely need people with experience in camping and perhaps even hiking. The trip to Florence is a long one. It's only 80 miles east of Fresno but takes around three hours to get there (it takes about 90 minutes alone to get from Hunnington to Florence, so that should say something about the terrain there).

Once there we would stay about a week. Armed with cameras, video cameras, and audio recorders we will try to gather any evidence that we can. Also we will be bringing Plaster of Paris in case we find any footprints, that way we can make a copy. In case there is any physical evidence (i.e. hair or scat) we will bring some plastic containers and zip locks to preserve these.

After the week is over we will collect the field cameras and head back home to hopefully go over any evidence we may collect. I'm not guaranteeing we get any evidence or even see or hear Bigfoot, but this is something I want to do. As time progresses, expect to hear more about this.
