Witnesses Describe Shadow Figures at Raymond Cemetery Near Madera

A group of Central California residents report a disturbing encounter at Raymond Cemetery, a rural cemetery located outside Madera. The incident, which took place during a nighttime visit, stands out from their previous experiences at the location due to its intensity and the presence of what they describe as fast-moving, human-sized or larger figures with reflective eyes.

According to the witness, the group had visited the cemetery multiple times prior to the encounter. Their visits typically involved walking the grounds, documenting headstones, and spending time in what they described as an atmospherically “active” location. While they report experiencing minor unexplained activity on earlier visits, nothing had caused significant alarm.

That changed during one particular night visit.

Upon entering the cemetery, the group immediately noticed a shift in the environment. The area was unusually quiet, with an absence of typical nighttime sounds such as insects or wind. Several members of the group independently reported a strong sense of unease, describing it as a “pit in the stomach” or an unshakable feeling that something was not right.

After a short time exploring, the group decided to leave.

As they exited through the gate, one of the witnesses looked toward a nearby field and observed what they initially believed to be a figure standing partially concealed behind a tree. The most distinct feature, they said, was a pair of reflective, silver-colored eyes.

Moments later, the figure began moving rapidly between trees in the direction of the group. The movement was described as extremely fast, appearing as brief, dark flashes rather than continuous motion.

As the group reacted, they became aware of a second figure approaching from behind, descending a small hill that overlooks the cemetery and surrounding field.

Witnesses estimate the figures were larger than an average adult human but noted that only portions of their forms were visible at any given time. They described the entities as shadow-like in appearance, capable of concealing most of their bodies behind trees while remaining partially visible. The reflective eyes remained the most consistent and clearly observed feature.

At that point, the group fled the area, returning to their vehicle and leaving immediately. They reported no further sightings during their departure.

In the time since the encounter, the witnesses have returned to Raymond Cemetery on multiple occasions. They report that the location appeared to return to its previous state, with no recurrence of the figures or similar activity.

The witness stated they have been unable to locate other accounts that closely match their experience, either locally or in broader reports of paranormal or unexplained encounters. No official reports or documented investigations related to similar sightings at the cemetery were identified at the time of writing.

One detail continues to stand out in their recollection. While previous visits to the cemetery included subtle or unexplained occurrences, the night of the encounter was marked by a complete absence of environmental sound.

The witness described it as “deathly quiet,” adding that the silence itself felt unusual given the location and time of night.

When I first began investigating local legends, Raymond Cemetery was one of the first places I visited. As it turned out, my family was already in the area celebrating Easter at Eastman Lake, making the cemetery a quick 20 minute detour. After the day’s festivities, my sister and I drove over to take a look for ourselves.

It had been more than two decades since my last visit, yet the cemetery felt largely unchanged. It remains a small, quiet place with a mix of older and more recent graves. I was particularly interested in locating the trees where the figures were reportedly seen, but they sit on private property, which limited how closely we could investigate.

I was able to take a few photos which give a good idea of how big the place is and where the trees in question are located.

I do plan to return for a nighttime visit in the near future. If there is anything to the reports of silver eyed figures, I want to see if they make their presence known. If they do, I'll be sure to share what I find.
