Haunted railroad crossing at Santa Fe Ave. & Ave. 271 in Visalia

There are stories of a haunted railroad crossing in Tulare County, south of the city of Visalia. The railroad crossing is located where Avenue 271 turns into Santa Fe Avenue via two 90 degree turns. The tracks here don't receive much traffic anymore as the line seems to be abandoned now. Yet for whatever reason there seems to be several hauntings at this crossing.
It's said if you park your car on the tracks you can hear the sounds of a train passing by as well as the ghostly images of people walking towards your car. And when you try to start your car back up it seems to take longer for the engine to turn over, almost as if the battery is being drained by something else.
One some nights around 3:00 am a phantom train can be seen. The origin of this haunt is unclear but one can imagine that given the time of the sighting, a train may have derailed sometime early in the morning. It's also said a white figure can be seen walking the along the road next to the crossing late at night. Whether this figure is related to the ghost train is unknown.
It's unknown if any of these haunts are actually true. I did come across several witness accounts regarding the above stories, but whether they are fabricated or not is hard to say. But I wouldn't be surprised if there haven't been a few accidents at this crossing. The fact that there are two 90 degree turns within 250 feet of each other could lend credence to this. But it's hard to say. Haunted railroad crossings are some of my favorite stories and that there is yet another one in the Central Valley area I felt I had to share it.

I'm always on the hunt for railroad-related hauntings, so this is something I'm interested in. Apparently, the tracks were constructed in 1888 for the Visalia & Tulare Railroad; later, they were owned by the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe Railroads. I'm trying to see if I can find any railroad accidents which could be the root of this... if you find out anything more, by all means let me know!
Is it true that there was a bus accident in the same railroad track..?O.o someone enlighten me
LOL that property is actually owned by my husband's family and it is very haunted. It used to be called Higby switch and a few years ago right along the tracks where the trees are lined up a young man got shot and died in them. He was into drugs, etc. and got caught up on the wrong side of the tracks. My husband said that when he used to spray out there he would get the creeps and once or twice he would see lights and see things. There is a house on the corner of ave 272 that I used to live in and it is very haunted as well. A guy committed suicide in the back room and we use to hear a man's voice yell out things, had items moved, and also had a female spectre as well. The part about seeing translucent people is real. Years ago I used to attend night class at College of the Sequoias. one night I was coming home from class and I literally drove through a man. He was very tall with red hair and it happened very fast. I refused to drive those back roads after that. So it is very haunted and I can't stand it back there, but I thin you might see that kid that got shot more than anything.
I grew up in Visalia and cruised Mooney with some girl and guy friends almost every weekend when I was in high school. One night, someone told us about Higby, a place near the santé Fe railroad tracks was haunted. We found the Higby sign, got out and looked around. I have a recollection of a deep hole near the tracks. We didn't see any ghosts but the boys had fun pretending they were going to throw us in the pit. Good times!
